Conservatory of Flowers Exhibit Overview
In this spectacular museum of living plants, immersive displays in five galleries will engage visitors physically, intellectually and emotionally. These splendid displays will not only delight, but will deliver a moving message about the rapid changes in tropical habitats worldwide and efforts currently underway to conserve these special places. New interpretive technology and interactive exhibit components will encourage visitors of all ages to learn more about these important natural resources and our interdependence. 15 artisan fabricators were also commissioned to create original art pieces to support the experience of being with the plants.
Gallery Overview
- ENTRY WAY
This newly appointed gallery is a gathering space where visitors will be greeted by docents. They will also have the opportunity to learn about the history of the Conservatory of Flowers and gain an appreciation for the generosity of the numerous donors who made the rehabilitation program possible.
- LOWLAND TROPICS under the Dome
This exhibit will house the Conservatory's prized century-old giant philodendron as well as a host of food-producing tropical plants such as cacao, allspice, cashew and coffee.
- HIGHLAND TROPICS in the East Wing
In this exhibit, the Conservatory's world-famous collection of high-elevation orchids will be displayed for the first time, along with mosses, ferns, vines and stunted trees of tropical mountaintops.
- AQUATIC PLANTS in the East Wing
Visitors walk over a sparkling glass bridge to view the giant Amazon water lilies large enough to hold up a child floating on ponds. Here visitors can also feast their eyes on the Conservatory's extensive collection of carnivorous plants.
- POTTED PLANTS in the West Wing
This gallery will feature seasonal floral displays, including many flowering favorites such as gloxinias, hibiscus and African violets and will house an extensive array of large containers from around the world.
- SPECIAL EXHIBITS in the West Wing
There will always be something new and fun for repeat visitors in the Conservatory's brand new SPECIAL EXHIBITS gallery.
