You might notice the temperature drop as you enter the Highland Tropics gallery, which mimics the misty cloud forests of tropical mountaintops. Hundreds of delicate orchids grow on the bark of gnarled trees, and dense mosses engulf rocks. Majestic ferns grow in abundance, along with crawling vines that make their way through a forest of stunted trees.
The Conservatory of Flowers is one of only four institutions in the U.S.A. to feature a Highland Tropics display. This unique exhibit is a highlight of any visit to the Conservatory. A primary feature of the Highland Tropics is the Conservatory's large and renowned collection of delicate high-altitude orchids.
