Introduction
The following is a list of products harvested from the tropics. To provide a connection between themselves and this area of the world, you can send students home with this list and have them check off the items found in their home. The results of the survey can be tallied and posted in the classroom.

Students can select one product and identify its country of origin. Working with a wall map, the class can then pin a label with their product name on the appropriate country.

Another activity is to have children check off how many of these items they have or used over a three-day period.

The Conservatory's economic plant collection includes: allspice, anatto, balsa, banana, cacao, calabash, cardamom, cinnamon, coffee, ginger, guava, lotus, miracle fruit, orchids, palm plants, papaya, patchouli, pineapple, rice, star fruit, taro, timber bamboo, vanilla and ylang-ylang.
