Lowland Tropics
In the steamy, lush jungles of the Lowland Tropics gallery, a light rain falls on the canopy of palms and a century-old Giant Philodendron. The stump of an enormous Kapok Tree lies on the ground while falling water cascades through the foliage around it. Large, colorful fruits hang heavily from branches, and sweet fragrances mingle in the air.
The Lowland Tropics Gallery is also home to the Conservatory's oldest and most valuable plants, including the 100-year-old giant Imperial Philodendron (that has recently become known as 'Phill'), and the Conservatory's Cycads, which are primitive gymnosperms, that pre-date the dinosaurs.
